The effect of solar shading on the indoor environment (avoiding overheating, reducing solar heat gains, improving natural light conditions) has obviously an influence on the need for cooling and heating. This is recognized by the HVAC industry, as  REHVA Guidebook nr12 how to integrate solar shading in sustainable buildings  will demonstrate.

Selection of solar shading should always be one of the first steps in the design of HVAC systems, as the demand for power and energy consumption are greatly influenced by solar shading.
