ES-SDA, the European Solar Shading Database

es sda

Smart Solar Shading becomes essential on solving overheating issues in low energy buildings. Building regulators and practitioners will be more likely to recognize reliable shading data presented by ES-SDA. ES-SDA is the European Database created by ES-SO with validated and peer reviewed performance shading data according to CEN/ISO Standards. Companies having published their data on ES-SDA have the right to use the ES-SDA quality brand.

HOW DOES ES-SDA WORK - VALIDATED DATA THROUGH A PROCESS OF PEER REVIEW

The supplier has to have their materials and fabrics tested to CEN/ISO Standards in an approved laboratory. That data is then checked and peer reviewed by experts in the industry before being added to the database. This is the same process the glazing industry use for their database. The entire procedure and output is web based and the output will be free to access anywhere.

WHO WILL BE THE USERS OF ES-SDA?

ES-SDA takes performance data of fabrics and materials when combined with reference glazing (CEN/ISO Standards) and calculates a wide range of outputs such as Gtot and Shading Factor (Fc) (heat rejection), Visible Light Transmittance (Tvis). Smart Solar Shading companies can see the performance of materials and depending on the glass type advise what may be best for the customer depending on their requirements. Building regulators, architects, engineers and building contractors have different ways of output available for further use in EPB/ building codes, building modelling, BIM...
